Doolin to Clifden  150 KM, 3.5 Hours
The road to Clifden is where Ireland decides to show off. One minute you’re dodging sheep, the next you’re driving by at mirror-like lakes and mountains that look straight out of a fantasy movie. Crossing into Connemara feels like entering a painting.  Clifden is nestled among the hills, near a major fishing port.
We stayed at the the Abbey Glen Castle Hotel.  It feels like a castle for sure, but I'd have to say it's overpriced and, being away from town, they gouge visitors a bit. Look, it's a tour bus stop ... say no more. They do have a cool parrot who wanders the lobby, though.
The Sky Road in Clidfen is amazing. You can look across the inlets and out to islands. Lots of people mountian biking along this road.  There's a castle along the road.  It's from 1818.  I like my castles a wee bit more ancient.

The town of Clifden is pretty big compared to other villages we visited. I loved Lowry’s Pub, and there’s great shopping of all kinds throughout the town. There are signs in both Irish and English all over the country — it seems to be more commonly spoken in the west.
Sláinte = Cheers
Fir = Men’s Room
Mná = Ladies’ Room
Guinness = Happiness (as far as I can tell)
Mitchell’s is a great restaurant — I had the best piece of herb-encrusted cod I’ve ever tasted. Highly recommend!
