We found the geysers, springs, mud pots and paint pots to be some of the most interesting things in the park. Walking around them feels like trekking across another planet just being formed. This is the primordial soup. We got up very early to beat the crowds. It was about an hour from our lodge to Old Faithful where a bison was munching grass right next to the geyser.
Standing near the mud pots and paint pots is a nice way to warm up.
The rivers are warm in places too.
Off to Helena — 4 hours, 20 minutes
Helena was another stopover. There's a downtown walking mall with some very nice stores and restaurants.
Here's what Wiki has to say:
Helena was founded as a gold camp during the Montana gold rush, and established on October 30, 1864. Due to the gold rush, Helena became a wealthy city, with approximately 50 millionaires inhabiting the area by 1888. The concentration of wealth contributed to the city's prominent, elaborate Victorian architecture.
